A bird cage is most obviously used to house birds. However, they may also be used for other animals. For instance, sugar gliders and rats may also benefit from such a home.
The proper size of bird cage will depend on a number of factors. Some may think that the size of the animal is the main factor. This does matter, however it is not as important as other things. In general, the primary concern is how active the animal is. Another thing to consider is how much time is spent within the cage. An animal which is only caged up during sleeping times does not need as large of a cage as one which spends most of its life within the cage.
A bird cage may be created from many different materials. Some are wooden or plastic, while others are created from metal. It is important to pay attention to what metal is used for a particular species, as well as what the metal is coated with. For instance, chicken wire or bars coated with zinc are toxic enough to lead to health problems for many animals over the years.
