Dog crates

Dog cratesMany dogs love their crates as they grow up, sleeping in them and spending time in them throughout the day. Many dog crates come in the wire metal form, and usually come in three sizes, Large, Intermediate and Small.

Crating your dog as a puppy can help with their maturation of using the bathroom outdoors instead of in your house. Nobody likes the task of cleaning up after their dog, and by crating them you can accelerate the process of them being housebroken.
Dog crates can be used for anything and most are utilized in different tyoes of things from a secluded den for the dog, to travelling gear and everything in between.
Crate training your dog will take anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on his age, behavior and other experiences.

When crating your dog, make sure that you do it when it’s a happy time for the dog. Don’t rush the process, and make sure you keep the crating process easy to understand for your dog.

A dogs instinct makes them want to stay in a den type structure, because that is how they used to live hundreds of years ago. Giving your dog a crate will keep them close to their roots.

Besides making housebreaking easier, dog crates help keep dogs out of things that they should not be getting into. From tearing up the house, to drinking harmful things, to keeping them calm, dog crates can do all of this and more.

Two or three weeks is usually all a dog needs to be crate trained. After the dog is crate trained, he will grow to love the crate, often spending it’s down time hanging out in the crate.
Do not make your dog afraid of the crate, by associating it with bad behavior. Doing this will make him scared of the crate, and make him think of it as timeout. A dog should think of the crate as his own place to hang out and use for himself.

But remember that if you need to use the crate as a disciplinary measure every now and then, the by all means do it. You cannot let a dog run your lifestyle.

With any crate you buy, you do not want is to be too small. The dog should be able to move around freely and be able to stand up. If you have puppy, and are thinking of buying a crate, make sure that you buy it so that it is big enough for them to grow into.

If it is too big at first, just use some blankets or cardboard or some other type of barrier so that they feel more comfortable.

Doing all of these things can help with your puppy and or dogs maturation and housebreaking.
