To become a frequent flyer your dog won’t need a passport, but it will need some dog traveling accessories to make the trips in comfort. For starters, it may not be economical, much less legal to purchase a seat for your canine companion. However they can have a space all their own in the form of a dog kennel.
The traditional kennel is a crude plastic affair that has a handle on to carry it with. For an air traveler this may not be convenient. There are wheeled versions available, as well as kennels with creature comforts like padded interiors. Check with an airline to find out if you can take a kennel as your carryon bag, and if not make absolutely sure that your dog doesn’t go into unpressurized cargo space. This will likely kill your dog, and that’s hardly the point of traveling with your pet.
Other traveling accessories for dogs include a detachable wheel base for older kennels, a partition for keeping two dogs separated within the same kennel, or toys to keep the pet occupied while it travels. There are also designer luxury kennels available for those willing to pay the price for them.
