Hamster tubes are vibrant, colorful plastic tubes which you can purchase at most pet stores. They attach to one another allowing you to create a long or short tunnel way or even a maze like structure for your hamster to explore. Some hamster habitat homes come with a tube set built in.
The inner rolls from toilet paper, paper towels, wrapping paper and other rolls also make great hamster tubes. Hamsters love to crawl through cardboard tubes as well as chew on them. Some have concerns about the glues and adhesives on these items, so you may want to use cardboard rolls that do not have any chemicals on them. If you prefer, you can buy sturdy cardboard rolls marketed just for pets at pet stores.
Be sure to select hamster tubes that are big enough for your hamster to crawl through comfortably to prevent it from getting stuck. Even though hamsters naturally like to be in dark, confined spaces placing treats strategically throughout the tube route encourages the activity even more. Tubes also are great for hamsters to nest in.
