Pet Supplies - Dog, Cat and Bird

Pets are amazing. For those who have never experienced the joy of having a pet they truly are missing out on a unique brand of love. At Worldpetstore.com our love for pets is boundless. Pets of all kinds, shapes, and sizes have specific needs; our aim is to fulfill those needs at competitive prices.

Pets provide many benefits, and while they do come with responsibilities the rewards definitely out weigh the work. Pets provide social support, stress relief, exercise, and other health benefits.

Socially, pets provide unconditional love. They are always there to listen without judging. In fact a recent study found that nursing home residents felt less lonely when visited regularly by a dog then with regular visits from a person! Pets will not only keep secrets but they are great for social networking. People are more likely to approach and ask questions to a person walking their pet. Not to mention the bonding owners of the same breeds will experience (truly only Great Dane owners understand each other for example.)

For stress relief, pets have a remarkable effect on their owners. Women who suffered from anxiety were three times less likely to have an attack when their dog or cat was present. Pets actually reduce blood pressure. ACE inhibitors (the medication taken for elevated blood pressure) are not as effective on stress and anxiety related spikes in blood pressure as pets are.

In another recent study men with AIDS were three times less likely to suffer from depression when they owned a pet. The drive to care about something other than the present illness is what keeps many terminally ill patients with pets going.

Exercise is another benefit of owning a pet. Without thinking about it an urban pet owner can easily walk over a mile a day walking their pet. This exercise not only provides all the benefits associated with being fit, but also encourages stress reduction and socialization with the outside world. Those who walk their dogs daily felt more connected to their community than those who didn’t walk daily.

With all the positive aspects of owning a pet and their ability to be unabashedly adorable it’s easy to forget that a pet comes with a certain degree of work and responsibility. Taking care of a pet means the owner must have some time available for their care. Pets need food, shelter, health care, and stimulation.

An owner can’t expect to buy a dog, stick it in a kennel in the backyard, and forget about him. Interaction with the animal is where all the benefits come from and the animal will lead a miserable life if they don’t receive the love and stimulation they crave.

Like children, homes must also be safe guarded for pets. Household chemicals should be kept in unreachable areas; this includes lawn and automotive products. Certain houseplants can be toxic to pets, along with some human food. Knowing the facts about the pet before he is brought home will make the transition easiest.

When adopting a pet it’s important the whole family comes along for the adoption process, this way every family member can be sure they are compatible with the animal. Some pets are not a good idea for small children. It’s also a good idea to check local animal shelters and with the Humane Society before going to the pet store, a life can be saved that would otherwise be euthanized.

Whether it’s a traditional dog or cat or a more exotic pet like a chinchilla, pets bring joy to our lives. For some a companion can be found in a bird or a horse, for others an iguana may do the trick. It’s important to know how to care for the animal and what supplies are needed before bringing them home. But once the pet is home and comfortable the whole family will have a new friend!
