Pet apparel in the past consisted of a collar and not much else. That was the sole piece of clothing that most pets ever wore during their life other than bandanas, the first piece of pet clothing. It wasn’t very expressive apparel however, spiked and studded collars being one of the only differences in collars, other than size, a few years ago. Now there is pet clothing that is designed in conjunction with regular clothing and complements the owners outfit.
Pet apparel is worn by classy dogs and working dogs alike, although the styles are greatly different. Working apparel is more like a backpack for pets than clothing. It has plenty of pockets to hold food, water and their favorite toy. Some carry first aid kits and are used in rescues, but most pet apparel is more for show than work.
There is pet apparel for any style and size of dog, but the largest market for pet clothing is among small dogs or toy dogs as they are often called. They are small enough to fit into bags and be carried around everywhere and are considered by some to be the ultimate lovable accessory, able to be dressed and undressed as often as Barbie. Bows in the hair aren’t enough anymore, many owners paint their dog’s nails as well.
