Proper heating is an essential element of keeping any reptile. Because they are cold-blooded creatures, they are completely dependant on their environment for the regulation of their body temperature. Fortunately, there are a number of devices that can be used as a reptile heater.
Radiant heat from a light source is the most recommended type of reptile heater. The vast majority of reptiles require exposure to ultra-violet B, which can only be produced by a light source. This being the case, a good light should be the primary source of daytime heat.
An under-the-tank reptile heater is a common secondary heat source in many reptile cages. Heat rocks (artificial or natural rocks embedded with a ceramic heating element) are another common alternative. Either of these items can act as a secondary supply of heat for a reptile.
